Kristin founded Linder EC in 2008 after working for big subject tutoring companies in the area and feeling that there had to be a better, more holistic approach to education.
Kristin is especially interested in learning disabilities and developmental disorders. Through her work, she noticed the gaps between neuroscience, psychology, and education. The Neuroscience field and the Education field largely operate in isolation, with the former focused on scientific research and the latter focused on mass education. Kristin’s current graduate work focuses on Developmental Psychopathology, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Statistics. She is a member of the Winslab research team at George Mason University. She wants to make sure Linder EC is always on the forefront of what can best serve students, and she hopes her work can help bridge the gap between neuroscience research and its applications in education.
Kristin has been featured in interviews in Northern Virginia Magazine, Arlington Magazine, and on radio shows about education. She was the One to Watch Under 40 in 2018, the Face of Educational Coaching 2017, and Linder EC won the Best of Arlington in 2016, 2018, and 2019, and the Best of Northern Virginia in 2017 for tutoring and education.
Sarah Behrens – Special Ed Specialist
B.A. University of Missouri
Sarah joined the Linder team in March 2016 with an extensive background in Special Education. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a concentration in Cross Categorical Special Education and Spanish. Since then she has been active with working and volunteering in the field. She worked as a Special Education coordinator and teacher in two Chicagoland public school systems before coming to the Arlington area where she continued to work in both private and public school settings supporting students with learning, social, communication and executive functioning differences. This also includes teaming up with families, teachers, and other support people in the students’ life to collaborate to foster growth, confidence and independence for each student to reach their capacity. Sarah is passionate about capitalizing on student strengths and interests to nurture love of learning.
Matt is a Fairfax County native, graduating from T.J. in 2010 and William and Mary in 2014. Since then, Matt has worked extensively in the field of standardized test prep, focusing primarily on SAT, ACT, and LSAT.
Before coming to Linder EC, Matt worked full-time in Los Angeles as a test-prep tutor, and helped create new curriculum content for the revised SAT, which was released in 2015. Matt has always been motivated to find helpful and accessible ways to present information to students, and over the years has refined the strategies that helped him achieve high scores on his own standardized tests. Matt continues to improve his craft of guiding student improvement on challenging tests such as the SAT and ACT.
Matt was a national merit scholar in high school, graduated summa cum laude from William and Mary, and scored in the 99th percentile on both the SAT and the LSAT. Matt feels strongly that the tools to this type of academic success are, to a large extent, teachable, and is excited to continue growing and improving the test-prep program at LEC.
Cali Johnson – Manager and leader of The Hub
B.A. Clemson University
Cali joined the Linder EC team in 2015 with the goal of helping students improve their organizational and time management skills.
Cali helped design, launch, and lead the after school program “The Hub”. Through The Hub, Cali has worked with students to improve their executive functioning skills, a skill set rarely taught within the school system, to reduce stress between students and parents and promote a better educational experience. Cali strongly disagrees with the idea that one system will work for everyone and strives to work with students to find a system that works for each of them as an individual. Cali is well versed in IEP and 504 accommodations, both helping students successfully implement them and coordinating with teachers/counselors for their use.
B.A. Therapy Dogs International
From a young age Finn has primarily been interested in loving and being loved. When his agility dog career didn’t take off as he once hoped (who wants to run that fast over obstacles?) Finn turned to what he knew he did best and became a certified therapy dog in 2013. Finn joined the Linder EC team in 2015 where he has continued his work to reduce anxiety and provide a positive working environment. Finn is a staple of The Hub, flopping on the floor for belly rubs, snouting under arms to ease stress, and serving as vacuum cleaner for spilled snacks.
