This summer, come learn with Linder!

Spend your summer at Linder and reduce the summer slide! Academics, problem based learning, and plenty of old fashioned camp fun!

Orton-Gillingham

Literacy is the backbone of education, and there has never been a time period where literacy progress was as compromised as during COVID. Each morning, our programs will begin with Orton-Gillingham multi-modal literacy and writing instruction. All teachers are trained in Orton-Gillingham, the current reading and writing curriculum with the best results in national studies. While some schools are working to have basic training in OG, our staff are put through the entire comprehensive OG training at the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education. This means that they teach with structured literacy and multi-modally - the most valid instructional method backed by science.

Mathematics & Problem Based Learning

Much like our school The Linder Academy, we love to excite kids about learning by presenting real world problems for them to solve. Each week, campers will be tasked with solving a problem, such as designing a butterfly garden or considering the drainage issues in Ellicott City. Campers will work together to research, test, design, model, and present solutions to their problems. Through their projects, campers will also improve their research, writing, and presentation skills.

We will also have a designated math block each day of camp. Teachers will focus on the development of true mathematical reasoning and math fact fluency, using a variety of teaching strategies.

Recreation & Fun

We aren’t just about “academics.” Students will have plenty of recreation time, including arts and crafts, games, and outdoor play each day. Activities will have kids working together, trying new things, and enjoying the simple moments of summer like tag, laughter and popsicles with friends.

Students will have access to the Linder Academy playground, kitchen, library, and student lounge. Windmill Park is a short walk, allowing for even more fun! And don’t forget water-play, a definite camper favorite!

Details

Camp will run from 8:30am-3:30pm Monday through Friday at our Alexandria campus (607 S. Washington Street). With enough interest, we will offer After Care from 3:30pm - 5:30pm.

Cohorts will be organized by literacy level to allow the OG instruction to best align with student needs. Cohorts typically will be no larger than 9 students. Enrollment is geared towards rising Kindergarten - 5th grade students. Camp is open to everyone - not just Linder Academy students!
